COVID-19 NOTICE: Disconnects for non-payment to resume July 14

Thursday | June 11, 2020
All News

UPDATE: 6/3/20: Disconnects for non-payment will resume on July 14, 2020.

In March, Mid-Ohio Energy temporarily suspended disconnections for non-payment to help members affected financially by the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, the co-op waived late fees for late/non-payments for bills due in March, April, and May.  The assessment of late fees will begin again for bills due in the month of June. The cooperative will resume service disconnections for non-payment, beginning on July 14, 2020.

We understand that many of our members have experienced financial hardships during the COVID-19 pandemic. All members with outstanding balances received a letter notifying them of this change. We are providing an advanced notice of this disconnect date in an effort to further prepare member who need assistance.

We're working with our members through these difficult times. If you need assistance please contact our offices, we are here to help. We offer extended payment arrangements, flexible account management options (such as PrePay with debt management and levelized billing), and ways to help you hold down energy costs.

Please contact us at 1-888-363-6446 as soon as possible with any questions or to make payment arrangements.

Original Post: As a result of Governor DeWine’s recent orders to limit contact with the public to help stop the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19), we will be closing our offices to the public, effective until further notice. Members can still make payments using any of our many existing options, including:

  • online through our Energy Center account management portal,

  • via our free app,

  • by phone (1-888-363-6446),

  • or drop boxes available at both of our offices.

    • Envelopes will be available in office entryways for payments.

    • Please note cash payments are discouraged, but can be made via sealed envelope with bill stub or member information included. No change will be made and any excess cash will be applied as a credit.

These precautionary measures are taken to help safeguard our members and employees. We're committed to keeping our communities safe and your electric service reliable. There will be no change in your electric service or outage restoration.

Working with members

If you need help paying your bill due to special circumstances related to COVID-19, please call our offices 1-888-363-6446. We're willing to work with our members through these difficult times. We thank you for your patience. If you have any questions, concerns, or simply need help making a payment or managing your account, please give us a call.

Monitor your energy use

If you and/or your family are spending more time at home, you may be using the computer, watching TV, cooking and keeping the lights on more than you usually do. This could result in your next electric bill being higher than normal. Make sure to monitor your energy using our free app or via our online EnergyCenter.

For info on ways to save energy, view our page of helpful tips and calculators.

Be on the lookout for scams

Members should be on the lookout for suspicious emails, phone calls or persons impersonating business employees or charitable organizations. Unfortunately, scammers take advantage of opportunities such as this when households are otherwise preoccupied. If you get a call from someone claiming to represent Mid-Ohio Energy making threats or demanding immediate payment, hang up and call the cooperative or the police department.

Annual meeting

The Annual Meeting on April 14th was livestreamed here with no member or public attendance. A letter describing these changes and containing meeting information was sent to all members at the end of March.
