LINEWORKER

POSITION: Lineworker
LOCATION: Kenton, Ohio or Marion, Ohio
REPORTS TO: Line Supervisor
JOB STATUS: Non-Exempt
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: None
OFFICE HOURS: 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM
JOB SUMMARY:
Under the general supervision of the Line Supervisor, the Lineworker will work with their crew to perform duties associated with maintenance and construction of the cooperative’s electric distribution system. The Lineworker must maintain residency within 20 driving minutes of the district office they are assigned to. Relocation, if required, must occur within 1 year of the start date.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Understand and abide by all safety rules and policies, including completion of pretrip and preflight of trucks and equipment, ensuring they meet all Department of Transportation (DOT) standards; testing hot gloves; wiping down hot sticks; setting up work zone using temporary traffic control; inspecting and documenting regular inspections of PPE and other equipment; performing and completing pole top and bucket rescue requirements; maintaining certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) use; attending required safety training and meetings; performing job briefings using the safe app; and recognizing and identifying hazards on the jobsite.
- Construct distribution lines in accordance with Rural Utility Service (RUS) standards.

Work on energized lines and equipment.

Maintain existing lines and equipment in accordance with Mid-Ohio Energy standards, including responding, troubleshooting, and restoring outages as necessary; setting and removing poles; trimming trees where necessary; troubleshooting issues with equipment or line devices and making repairs where necessary; replacing special equipment such as transformers, regulators, and capacitors; and programing and operating line device controls.

Install new services and perform service upgrades in a timely manner at RUS standards.

Install primary underground, terminating elbows, and potheads as needed.

Excavate for transformer vault or sector cabinet installations.

Prepare trucks and equipment for daily use, including stocking materials and tools, greasing and lubing trucks and booms, performing minor maintenance and repairs, and performing regular cleaning.

Perform operations with the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system, including hotline tag.

Access Ohio Utilities Protection Service (OUPS) tickets and locate the underground lines requested in the ticket.

Interact professionally with coworkers and members of the cooperative, maintaining a positive image for the cooperative.

Understand and complete necessary paperwork, including timesheets and service orders.

Read, understand, and utilize staking sheets.

Install, replace, and/or read meters.

Locate and repair faulted underground cables, both primary and secondary.

Install security lights and repair existing security lights.

Monitor inventory levels, notify supervisor when inventory needs ordered, and stock inventory upon arrival.

Inspect trucks, equipment, facilities, substations, and first aid equipment, and document the inspection as well as any findings.

Load and haul cooperative equipment, including but not limited to poles, transformers, and regulators.

Flag traffic and set up temporary traffic zone utilizing traffic control lights as needed.

Implement appropriate oil spill prevention and containment procedures as needed.

Understand and comply with proper rigging while staying within load limits for the equipment being utilized.

Perform miscellaneous facility cleaning and/or repairs, as necessary.

Actively participate in cooperative committees, as assigned.
SKILLS OR CERTIFICATIONS:
-
Possess critical thinking skills and ability to solve problems and make decisions on the jobsite and in substations.

Proficient in use of technology devices including iPads, computers, and general office software such as Microsoft Office.

Ability to safely follow written procedures and/or locate resources required to troubleshoot or problem solve.

Ability to navigate the system territory, including locating substations and feeders with the resources available on the job.

Ability to utilize all equipment including bucket trucks, digger derrick, dump truck, line puller, line tensioner, skid loader, fork truck, and mini excavator.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or GED required.

Must be a Journeyman Lineworker.

Possess Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or have the ability to obtain one.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
-
Must pass pre-employment drug screening test and maintain drug free workplace.

Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions performing heavy physical labor.

Must be able to lift a minimum of 75 pounds.
-
Must be able to work at heights above 6 feet.
-
Must be able to maintain regular rotation in 24 hour on-call schedule with overtime expected as necessary.
