A $3 service charge increase for all residential service accounts will take effect on January 1, 2023.
This adjustment is necessary to support the long-term reliability and financial stability of the co-op.
Your co-op has been conducting cost of service studies and examining rate structures to balance service, reliability, and long-term financial security for your co-op.
What’s one thing that everyone dreads looking at right now? The price tag! Inflation, as measured by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics Consumer Price Index Summary, jumped 9.2% in September of 2022 compared to September of 2021.
The cost of food at the grocery store is up 13% (from September 2021 to September 2022), and we’ve all felt the pain at the gas pump.
Your cooperative has also been affected by rising costs (see the graphs below). Fuel costs, power costs, and the cost of materials to build and maintain our electric distribution system have all risen significantly.
The adjustment allows us to make investments in our distribution system and ensure you continue to see “the cooperative difference,” such as 99.99 percent reliability, exceptional service, and Mid-Ohio Energy being a trusted community partner, for years to come.
The service charge is reflected in the “distribution” line of your monthly billing statement. There is no change to the rate you pay per kilowatt-hour.
With the rate adjustment going into effect on Jan. 1, members will see the new rate on the bill generated in early February (for energy used between Jan. 1 and Jan. 31).
In addition to the service charge increase, members who have a security light owned and maintained by Mid-Ohio Energy will see the security light fee increase $1 per month.
