Cardinal Plant Tour

Mid-Ohio Energy invites you to take a tour of Cardinal Generating Station on Thursday, October 2, 2008.  Members will tour Cardinal Unit 3, the generating plant capable of generating 630 megawatts of power for cooperative members.

 

Tour participants will travel by bus to the plant, which stands beside the Ohio River in Brilliant, right beside the Ohio River.  The cost is $35 per person, which includes lunch and round-trip transportation.

 

Tour highlights include:

 

·        Learning about electric generation, and what it takes to deliver a steady supply of reliable power to your home.

 

·        A unique 423-foot cooling tower capable of cooling 300,000 gallons of water per minute for reuse.

 

·        The main turbine, spinning at 3,600 rpm to generate 26,000 volts of power.

 

·        See the complex control room equipped with hundreds of cameras and indicators that monitor the plant’s daily activity.

 

·        Environmental upgrades, including a new “flue gas desulfurization” (FGD) emissions control system reduces sulfur dioxide by more than 95 percent.
